FULFILL MORAL DUTY
October 29, 2024. Early Morning Hang-Up.
In the early morning, or long before the end of the night, you wake up wondering what devastating bad news you will find, whether they blew up the whole place under cover of darkness.
Every morning, or every night, you check it out, fearing for the mishap that could seriously derail everything.
Some dawns bring comfort. When you realize that 6-ton balistic missiles from Iran could not hit their targets, killing very few people indeed (one little Palestinian girl on April 13, one Palestinian labourer from Gaza on October 1). Or when you find that the Israeli counter-strike on October 26, killed only two Iranian soldiers.
Other dawns bring dismay. The war hubris will take us places that should have been left untouched. Walking on a tight rope way upon the ground requires steel nerves. Steel nerves will fray too.
On Sunday, October 26, at Mount Herzl, during a national ceremony of mourning for the victims of October 7
- at which the members of kibbutz Nir Oz and kibbutz Be'eri refused to participate - the Israeli Minister of Defense, General Yoav Gallant, boldly declared that 'Force is not the answer to everything', echoing Einstein's warning :
'Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved through understanding'
More precisely, General Gallant stated : "Not every objective can be achieved solely through military action". He then added :
"Force is not the answer to everything. To fulfill our moral duty - to bring the captives home - we may need to make painful compromises. We must do this for them, for their families, for the soldiers who fell for this cause, for the legacy of the IDF and for our Jewish and national ethos... This is our responsibility."
October 30, 2024. "... the reality has outspaced them all."
"Some of the scenarios we prepared for, the reality has outspaced them all." IAF Major Anael at Ramon Airbase
Pilots who attacked Iran speak out: 'After landing, it took me a moment to process what I’d done'
October 31, 2024. "This is not a struggle against Bibi."
ex Chief of Staff of the IDF (2005-2007) Dan Halutz, born in 1948, protesting in Caesaria, in October 2024.
"It's not only a matter of economic capability. It's above all a moral question.
"Everything can be corrected, even if the correction is painful and is accompanied by mass demonstrations by the settler-right. [...] A change in the order of priorities in every sphere will be essential. If we don't believe that is possible, we're all wasting our time."
November 1, 2024. Waiting for the American Referee...
Changing of the Guards ?
The original sin... is turning its back on the Other.
"in the end, we will have to love the Palestinians, and they will have to love us" Ofri Ilany
November 2, 2024. "I'm trying to stay alive" her last message.
In Jabaliya, Mahasen Al-Khatib, 31, was killed by an air strike. In Gaza, there are 101 Israeli hostages in captivity.
November 3, 2024. B-52s back in town.
Some say a third wave of ballistic missiles from Iran should be expected before the American elections - leaving us less than a couple of days. Others insist it will happen after November 5, not to bolster Trump's reelection.
Another Desert Storm (1990-1991) looming. B-52 bombers have been moved from the US to South Korea, and from South Korea to CentCom's "area of responsibility", i.e. the Middle East.
In the meantime, Terminal 1 at Ben Gurion Airport has been closed for five months, for lack of traffic.
Things get increasingly clear in the course of time. The Islamic Republic of Iran broke the international status quo when it launched its ballistic missiles into space, on April 13-14 and October 1.
Not so much a matter of what their targets were, but the fundamental fact that they deliberately started the first space war in the history of humankind.
The United Nations have not asked for the exclusion of the IRI.
In Lebanon, the United Nations Interim Force, with its ten thousand men in arms and uniforms, has been so helpless at fulfilling its mission, it leaves us wondering : what future is there for United Nations in peace ?
November 4, 2024. Sliding on thin ice.
2 a.m., the night sky is quiet. Don't believe the IRI will attack before tomorrow. They're too afraid of bolstering Trump. The latest poll, as published by the New York Post, gives Trump ahead in every swing state, "by a narrow but expanding margin".
Ran Shimoni, Haaretz, November 4, 2024 [it's not a question of interest, but of awareness]
Shlomo Mansour, 86, the oldest hostage detained in Gaza.
With Oded Lifshitz, 84, from Nir Oz.
Who cares about old men kept incommunicado, treated as bargaining chips ?
The final, unforgivable disgrace of "Hamas" is all there. Along with kidnapping young women, infants.
How do you deal with blackmailers ?
November 5, 2024. The view from above. "The warming of our common sea is dynamite".
Barcelona was hit yesterday by the same phenomenon as Valencia on October 29 (220 dead and drowned : 500 liters of water per square meter). King and Queen pelted with mud by desperate people crying "Where were you ?"
November 6, 2024. Changing of the Guards.
Expecting the results of Wisconsin, at 9 a.m. (presently 51.2% for Trump, 92% of the votes) and that will be it. 267 + 10 = 277. It's clear enough that America does not want Angela Davis president in 2024...
As for Yoav Gallant, it is unclear why he should have struggled to enlist all the religious students into the IDF : that alone meant his demise. The haredim are the spiritual heart of Israel, come what may. You can't force guns and uniforms on them, along with mixity...
November 7, 2024. Part of winning...
"Part of winning is that they won't disrupt our lives, so we came"
Tal & Tomer Ben David, who did not cancel their plans, despite the Party of God (Hezbollah) firing 9m-long Iranian Fatteh missiles, with 500kg warheads, on their way.
November 8, 2024. Looking back, in the night.
"a deal could be advanced and even reached in July" according to the entire security apparatus
101 hostages left behind. Old men, young women, possibly infants if they survived.
The horrendous reality of Gaza as an underground maze for hostages and a field of ruins above.
Think Shlomo Mansur, Oded Lifshitz are your elder brothers, your fathers, grandfathers, Naama Levy, Arbel Yehud are your junior sisters, your daughters, grand-daughters. Think of them all as your lovers, your loved ones.
The haunting question at 1 a.m., 2 a.m., through the nights : how do you deal with blackmailers and their accomplices ? You kow tow to them, submit to their demands, and then what ?
Will you not go after them, with a clear view of eradicating the whole hostage-taking system ?
The complementary voice adds that all people in Gaza are hostages themselves of that system.
The ongoing struggle is on both levels : armed and spiritual. The spiritual level no less than the armed level.
How many innocents grinded, burned alive, until we get there ?
Innocents : weak people who did not have any real opportunity to escape, live differently. Infants first among them. "Hamas" was unforgivable for targetting, kidnapping infants, old men, old women, and young women - or any women. [is this sexism ? it has remained a universal outcry in catastrophes : Women and Infants First !]
Women, Infants, and the Elders First !
***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Horror and disgust in Amsterdam yesterday.
Echo of the Munich massacre in September 1972.
This is what we've been warning against for so long.
The red thread between the various types of ultra-violence, from Tehran (Peace Nobel Narges Mohammadi still detained), Irak and Syria (Daesh), Palestine, and Europe (France 2015-2016...), has always been obvious.
Wake up call in the cold dangerous night.
This has never been about "resistance" and "freedom fighters".
Nor was it about (Israeli) "occupation" in Algeria during the Dark Decade.
November 10 till November 17, 2024.
Presently in Israel, from Sderot and Nir Oz to the border with Jordan and Lebanon, via Haifa and Akko, Safed...
