Non-Governmental Organization working for lasting Cease Fire and Peace Process in the Middle East through the Non-Violent Approach

Publicité

 Warning, as of November 10, 2019 :

Until recently, the impartial observer of reality in the Middle East had to go through seven main sources of news in English : YNet News, Al Monitor, The Times of Israel, Al Jazeera, The Jerusalem Post, Ma'an News, Haaretz, with occasional additions (The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Israel National News...). You will notice the disparity in numbers between Israeli media and Palestinian media.

Sadly, for weeks on end, the only Palestinian media source in English, Ma'an News, has been brain dead. It has just reappeared, after an endless period without any fresh news, but in Arabic only. The "English" caption on top, to this day, is not working.

In Nablus, in early November, we evoked this problem with the former Minister of Education, Dr Shaer. He admitted the Palestinian media are "weak".

In English, they now are non-existent. If you want to learn about the protests and riots along the Gaza border, you have to read The Times of Israel.

To us, this is a most alarming context : how can democracy exist without media, not to mention a "free press" ?
